Every now and then when I was younger my family would meet up at the local V.F.W. hall for a fish fry. It was always a great time with a big open patio, friendly faces, and awesome food. I may be a bit older and a few hundred miles away from home but Catfish Corner makes me feel closer.

Catfish Corner is quickly becoming a local favorite throughout Mid-Missouri. They can fill up your plate with some of the best freshwater catfish you’ll find. Catfish Corner features Simons Freshwater Catfish all the way from Yazoo City, Mississippi.

The large open deck is reminiscent of another nationally know “country” restaurant but Catfish Corner has more of a down home feel to it. The large open dining room can accommodate any size party. Quirky seafood décor spot the restaurant from netting and fish to frogs and turtles. The laid back atmosphere is easy soak in while looking over the menu.

The laminated menu at Catfish Corner gives you unlimited choices for any craving. Gumbo, shrimp, clams, steak, chicken, frog legs and of course catfish cover front and back. We started off with breaded dill pickle spears, which I was told to try hours before my trip. The spears were covered with a dill breading that added an extra crisp to the warm pickles and made for a tasty appetizer.

The easiest and best way to experience all that Catfish Corner has to offer is by ordering the #17. The seafood sampler, two catfish strips, two chicken strips, popcorn shrimp, clam strips, slaw and hush puppies. Nap not included. Needless to say this sampler was a down home delight. The #17 was served up in a cute fish plate which overflowed with food. It was stacked high, smelled incredible, and didn’t last long.

The Jalapeno hush puppies put a wonderful spin on a classic sidekick to seafood. The Jalapeno batter added a sweet kick to the creamy center. Everything on my plate was amazingly battered and fried. Not too much batter and not under, or over, cooked. The shrimp was beautiful pink under a light breading and extremely flavorful when added with the cocktail sauce. The main reason for the trip was the catfish and it didn’t disappoint. The light breading made for a slight crisp before you reach the smooth catfish. Extremely fresh and flaky the catfish was outstanding.

Catfish Corner is a fun place to be. A diverse menu, full front and back, will fit any appetite you have. Bring a bunch of friends or family with you to share in the experience. Whether you’re a hundred miles from home or not Catfish Corner can give you a welcoming feel along with fantastic food.
