The Sports Zone & Grill - Posted 5/17/07

The Sports Zone & Grill sounds like a great sport bar. However when you walk in you realize that this “sports bar” has a little identity problem. Sure there are 24 plasma TV’s all over the place but you won’t hear the TV. Instead you’ll hear music as you sit at your candlelit booth or table.

The Sports Zone provides a “Sports Bar” atmosphere in an upscale setting. Newly remodeled just a few years ago the décor inside is sophisticated. A large bar area is up a few steps to the left and the tables crawl across the remaining space. There is a TV at every angle with a variety of sports all day. The eye catcher is the high-def TV that covers an entire wall. Frankly, as a guy, it’s very impressive.

The appetizers cover wings, cheese sticks, quesadilla, and chips. We decide to go with the coconut shrimp and it turned out to be a great choice. Crispy coconut batter covered large shrimp at the Sports Zone & Grill. The fruity taste of the coconut mixed well with a pepper spice from the accompanying sweet red pepper sauce. After they were gone we wished we ordered two.

The other menu options cover a wide variety for a sports bar. Stuffed blue cheese steak burger, chicken covered in caramelized onions, KC strip steak, sockeye salmon, and pasta. I went for the New Orleans Muffaletta, the signature sandwich of the Big Easy. A round loaf of bread filled with Italian salami, olive salad, cheese, Italian ham, and freshly minced garlic. At the Sports Zone the key ingredient is the olive salad, which gives the Muffaletta its special flavor and makes it appealing to the eye. Appealing or not this sandwich was a treat with every bite.

The Sports Zone & Grill might make you wonder about the décor when you think sports bar but the food along with the beer choices and plethora of TV’s will put your mind at ease. The Sports Zone should be on your list of places to see the “big game” or to grab dinner. Either way you won’t be let down.
