At the corner of 9th & Cherry in downtown Columbia, you can find Kaldi's Coffeehouse.  Still relatively new to the area, Kaldi's already has quite a following.  Beginning as a roasting company, Kaldi’s has coffeehouses in Springfield and the St. Louis area.

Kaldi's has a long dining room with eclectic art on the wall, comfy leather couches, a raised lounge and even a fireplace.  The bookcase and flat screen TV lead up to exposed air ducts; giving Kaldi's inviting atmosphere with just a hint of an industrial feel.  Whether you grab a barstool looking onto 9th street or a spot on one of the plush leather couches, you'll feel right at home.

Kaldi's is known for hand roasting and blending all their coffees in small batches which is why "When you open a bag of Kaldi's coffee, you'll immediately notice the subtle color differences in each blend - that's custom roasting at work."  Of course, you can purchase coffees and teas to take home or stay and enjoy them at the coffeehouse.  With over 31 blends and espressos, along with numerous flavored coffees I guarantee you'll find a drink to love.

The menu is whimsically written on the wall with choices that vary from Breakfast, Deli selections, Salads, Crepes, Omelets, and even a section for kids with PB&J and Mac and Cheese.

We ordered some of Kaldi's Artichoke dip to start.  It was heavy on flavor, had a creamy texture, included chucks of artichoke and was sprinkled with paprika; served with carrots, celery, and warm crispy pita chips.  A great side, starter, or snack anytime.

The Baked Mac & Cheese caught my eye, my taste buds, and my attention.  The "grown up" Mac & Cheese was warm, cheesy and baked with a golden brown top.  It was like being 8 again, only this time with a job, car payments, a checkbook, and a much better understanding of presidential elections.  Sliced apples shared the plate and made for a crunchy sidekick.  Kaldi's Baked Mac & Cheese is a definite favorite that will draw you back.

Kaldi's Coffeehouse is certainly becoming a quick favorite of downtown visitors.  With its laid-back and appealing atmosphere, you feel like you could sit here all afternoon drinking one or many of Kaldi's great blends while treating yourself to some great food.  Make sure you stop by the corner of 9th & Cherry to make any day seem a little more relaxed.
